Commercial flooring without compromising business continuity

Commercial flooring projects rarely happen in isolation. They form part of wider refurbishments, fit-outs, maintenance programmes and construction projects where programme, coordination and the continued operation of the building all matter.

At Derwent, we deliver commercial flooring and hygienic wall cladding projects across the South West, working with property owners, developers, facilities teams, consultants and principal contractors across a diverse range of commercial environments.

From individual refurbishment works to multi-phase projects and major commercial developments, we understand that our role extends beyond installing the specified finish. We need to integrate with the wider construction programme, communicate effectively and deliver our package when the project needs it.

Understanding the Building and the Brief

No two commercial projects are the same.

The flooring requirements of a busy public-facing building can be very different from those of a corporate headquarters, mixed-use development or operational commercial facility.

Our broad flooring capability allows us to deliver safety and resilient flooring, LVT, carpet tiles, commercial carpet, wood flooring and specialist hygienic flooring and wall cladding according to the demands of each space.

Rather than treating individual products in isolation, we consider how different finishes work together across the building—balancing appearance, durability, maintenance, acoustics and long-term performance.

Keeping Businesses Operational

Commercial buildings cannot always close while refurbishment works are completed.

Where clients need to remain operational, we work collaboratively to develop an appropriate sequence for the flooring works. This may involve phased installations, segregated working areas or coordination around operational hours.

Careful planning before works begin helps us identify access requirements, preparation, interfaces and potential programme constraints early.

On larger construction projects, our teams coordinate closely with site management and other trades to ensure preparation and installation take place at the correct stage of the programme.

From Substrate to Finished Floor

The performance of any commercial floor begins with what sits beneath it.

Our team assesses substrate condition, moisture and preparation requirements before installation, allowing the correct preparation system to be incorporated into the works.

We then manage setting out, installation, interfaces with adjoining finishes and final quality assurance as part of a coordinated flooring package.

Why Choose Derwent?

Commercial clients need contractors who understand the wider project, not just their individual trade.

At Derwent, we combine specialist flooring knowledge with practical construction experience, effective communication and a collaborative approach to project delivery.

Whether we’re working directly for the end client or alongside a principal contractor, our objective remains the same: protect the programme, deliver the specification and leave behind a high-quality installation built for long-term commercial use.

Your building keeps working. So do we.
